The Capitol Police officer, who served in the Sunni triangle during one of the most dangerous periods of the Iraq War, is credited with saving the lives of members of Congress on Jan. 6.

The footage showed the riot in searing detail: a police officer screaming in pain; lawmakers taking cover in the House chamber. It also showed Mr. Trump telling his supporters: “Go home. We love you. You’re very special.”

Officer Eugene Goodman has been hailed as a hero on Capitol Hill for preventing the invaders from breaching the Senate chamber during the Jan. 6 assault while senators were still inside.
