Live code your Friday night
An evening of futuristic electronic rhythms, brought to you by some of the leading lights of the Algorave movement. Experience the exciting and unpredictable phenomenon of algorithms brought to life as music and visuals. Expect demonstrations, creative interventions and an opportunity to see the exhibition, Imaginary Cities, along with bars for beers and cocktails.
Alex McLean is a musician, researcher, software artist, free/open source software developer, and organiser of strange events. Alex is a co-founder of the TOPLAP and Algorave movements.
ALGOBABEZ have been blasting eardrums with noisy synth-driven algo-pop since 2016. Algorave regulars, Shelly Knotts and Joanne Armitage, code and control patterns of weird, wonky, noisy, thumping, danceable music.
The Yorkshire Programming Ensemble (TYPE) are Lucy Cheesman, Laurie Johnson, and Ryan Kirkbride, who explore noisy, rhythmic music in a collaborative virtual space. They will be joined for the evening by Sheffield-based live coder, Innocent Granger.
Coral Manton is an audiovisual artist (Bristol, UK). She experiments with live-coding and electronics exploring improvised audio and visual composition. Coral is the co-producer of the evening.
hellocatfood is the alias of Antonio Roberts, a Birmingham based New Media artist and Curator. For his live visuals he (mis)uses a range of programming languages to create glitched, broken visuals.
digital selves is a London based artist who uses live coded algorithms of computer synthesis and found sounds to create a fusion of melodic, lo-fi and industrial techno.
Dan Hett is digital artist, livecoder and experimental visualist from Manchester. Dan uses a combination of live coding, video mixing, broken GIFs and glitchy live inputs to create completely improvised and unpredictable audio-driven visuals.
Composer, programmer and improviser of music, Berlin-based Alexandra Cárdenas has followed a path from Western classical composition to improvisation and live electronics.
In association with The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. The Institute is named in honour of Alan Turing, whose pioneering work in theoretical and applied mathematics, engineering and computing is considered to have laid the foundations for modern-day data science and artificial intelligence.
