In the late 2018/early 2019, I was briefly disappointed when it appeared that Starbucks removed my bakery staple, the Cinnamon Morning Bun (or Morning Bun), from the menu! Luckily, it was only missing for a short time; I discovered later that the morning bun’s brief disappearance was due to a change in recipe.
This is not a food blog so I will not go into details, but the revamped version is a little different. I encourage you to try one for yourself!
One of my drivers for this post is to highlight yet another use case for the “Wayback Machine” and the value/power of the information it contains. In this case, I am referring to the ability to compare historical nutrition facts, ingredients and other information from a restaurant’s online menu. Additionally, I am hoping to leverage some first mover advantage on the morning bun topic to boost my search ranking!
To prove my hypothesis that the recipe changed (and that my most recent morning bun was not just a flattened, slightly different tasting “one off”), I used the trusty “Wayback Machine” (archive.org) to review the appearance, ingredients, and nutrition facts of the previous morning bun vs. the new 2019 one; sure enough, there are differences between the two (and the previous version as well). I have summarized below if this sort of thing interests you.
And what blog post is complete without images; here are the before and after pictures of the Starbucks Morning Bun.
