Summary List Placement Table of Contents: Masthead StickyAmazon Prime Day 2020 will deliver thousands of deals to Amazon Prime members once again, and it might be the best way to get your hands on this year's hottest video game console, the Nintendo Switch. The Switch has been the bestselling gaming console during a record-setting year for video game sales, drawing in millions of new players with its unique portable design. The more advanced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be released later this fall, but exclusive Nintendo franchises, like "Super Mario," "Pokemon," and "The Legend of Zelda," will continue to make the Switch a hit for years to come. Increased demand during the COVID-19 pandemic has made the $300 Switch hard to find, but don't be surprised if Amazon has set some aside for Prime Day. The $200 Switch Lite has been somewhat easier to find, with bundles offered in your choice of grey, yellow, turquoise, and coral. Keep in mind that the Switch Lite cannot connect to another display, so if you want to play on your living room TV, don't settle for a Switch Lite.
When is Amazon Prime Day 2020? We'll be keeping an eye on Nintendo Switch deals during the weekend, and on October 13 and 14 when Prime Day officially launches. However, when the time comes, you'll need an Amazon Prime subscription. A Prime subscription goes for $13 a month or $120 annually. Amazon Prime subscribers have lots of benefits that are included with the service, most importantly the free two-day shipping on many items, the ability to stream Amazon Prime Video, and much more. This post will be updated as new sales start, so check back regularly. For more Prime Day coverage, you can follow all the best Prime Day tech deals here. Early Amazon Prime Day Nintendo Switch deals Amazon Prime Day doesn't officially start until October 13, but you can already find Amazon discounts on Nintendo Switch games, like "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate," "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" and "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze." Current sales on Switch cases and accessories include a wireless Switch Pro Controller for $24 and a $25 carrying case on sale for $13. Standard Switch consoles are currently out of stock, but a Switch Lite bundle with a 128GB SD card is available for $225. The deal only saves about $10, but the Switch Lite has been difficult to find outside of these sorts of bundles.
Nintendo Switch deals to expect on Prime Day Amazon has confirmed that several Nintendo Switch titles will be on sale for up to 33% off during Prime Day, though we're not sure which yet. Annual subscriptions to Nintendo Switch Online with a 128 GB SanDisk MicroSD card will also be 36% off during Prime Day. Nintendo Switch Online usually costs $20 per year and provides access to dozens of classic Nintendo games, many of which were included with the $80 Super Nintendo Classic in 2017. Demand for Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite consoles has skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic so don't expect many to be in stock on Prime Day. The Switch is rarely discounted below $300 but we could see console bundles that offer multiple games or Switch accessories at a lower price.
Nintendo Switch deals we saw on Prime Day last year Last year's Prime Day deals included a Switch bundle with a $35 Nintendo eshop card for $300. Amazon's competitors frequently bundle the Switch with a $60 game during Black Friday and other major sales, so the Prime Day deal might not necessarily provide the best value for a Switch bundle if you can wait a few weeks. We also saw slight discounts on popular Nintendo Switch games, like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe," and can expect more of Nintendo's hit titles to show up on sale this year.
How to shop for a Nintendo Switch Nintendo offers two versions of the Switch — the $300 standard console and the $200 Switch Lite. Both consoles run the same games, but there are some key differences with the hardware. The standard Switch has two removeable "Joy-cons" that can be used as controllers, and can be connected to a television. The Switch Lite's controls cannot be removed from the screen and it cannot use the Switch dock to connect to a larger TV or monitor. This also means that games that require the Joy-cons for motion control, like "Super Mario Party," will require a separate controller with the Switch Lite. The difference in size has some other impacts, too. The Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch screen while the standard Switch has a 6.2-inch screen. The standard Switch's battery can last for up to nine hours, while the Switch Lite tops out at seven hours. Continue reading for some sales we expect to see come out in droves: Best Prime Day tech deals Outside of Black Friday, Amazon Prime Day is when we see the steepest discounts on TVs, speakers, headphones, laptops, computers, games, and, of course, Amazon goods. While we don't expect to see major discounts, if any, on recently released products, shoppers can expect heavy price cuts on last year's models. PC gamers can look forward to deep discounts on monitors, mice, mechanical keyboards, and other PC peripherals during Prime Day too. Popular brands, like Razer, Steelseries and Logitech, have been known to drop prices on their gaming products to all-time lows during Prime Day. Best Prime Day TV deals During Prime Day, shoppers will see all-time low prices on 4K TVs from Toshiba and Insignia. Amazon also confirmed that select Samsung and Sony TVs will be 30% off during Prime Day 2020, and you can expect competitive prices on low- and mid-range TVs from TCL and Hisense. Best Prime Day Nintendo Switch deals Several Nintendo Switch games including "New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe," " Super Mario Party," and "Yoshi's Crafted World" are on sale for $40 during Prime Day, but don't expect to see many PlayStation or Xbox deals with the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles due out in early November. Amazon will offer a discounted bundle packaging a 128GB MicroSD card with one year of the Nintendo Switch Online service during Prime Day 2020, though the price hasn't been announced. MicroSD cards are essential for expanding the Switch's 32GB storage, so we'll likely see more discounts from companies like Samsung, Sandisk, and PNY. Best Prime Day deals on Apple devices Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 12 on October 13, but don't expect to see it on sale during Prime Day. Instead, you'll likely be able to find deals on Apple's AirPods and Beats headphones. AirPods Pro are currently selling for $199 on Amazon, which is $50 off their full price. Amazon-owned Woot.com is currently offering deals on iPads and Macbook computers with those sales scheduled to end when Prime Day begins. Best Prime Day smartphone deals Smartphone shoppers can look forward to lots of options during Prime Day 2020, with newly announced Android phones from Samsung and Google joining the market. Google's Pixel 3 is already on sale for $339 with the Pixel 5 due out later this month, and Prime Day could bring deeper discounts on the Pixel 4 and Samsung's Galaxy S20 phones, which launched in May. Best Prime Day Kindle deals Two versions of Amazon's popular Kindle ereader will be on sale during Prime Day 2020; Kindle Paper White and Kindle Kids Edition. The Kindle Paperwhite, our pick for best midrange ereader, will see a $50 discount to $80. The Kindle Kids Edition will be discounted $35 to $75. Last year also included moderate price drops for the Kindle Oasis and standard Kindle, plus discounts on ebooks, so don't be surprised if more Kindle deals appear on Prime Day. Best Prime Day laptop deals If you're in the market for a new laptop, expect to see discounts on work notebooks, and gaming computers from companies like, Acer, Asus, HP, and Samsung. Gamers can look forward to deep discounts on monitors, mice, mechanical keyboards, and other PC peripherals during Prime Day. While we've seen a big shortage on these Google-powered laptops in the last few months, we expect to see renewed stock during the shopping event. Best Prime Day deals on headphones This year, shoppers will likely see two types of headphones see big discounts: noise-cancelling headphones and truly wireless earbuds. To help, we're answering all the most common questions our readers have regarding the sales event, including dates, competing sales, how to prepare, and more. What is Amazon Prime Day? Introduced in 2015 in part to celebrate Amazon's 20th anniversary, the first Amazon Prime Day was a one-day-only retail holiday for Prime members that sought to overtake Black Friday as the sales event of the year. During the event, prices drop to all-time lows, often beating out prices we see over Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The sale covers every product category Amazon offers: tech, beauty, home and kitchen, fashion, and smart home are just a few of the huge variety of items that will be discounted. Last year's Amazon Prime Day was a huge success; during the 48-hour sale event held on July 15-16, Prime members bought more than 175 million items. It was the biggest shopping day in company history until it was surpassed by Cyber Monday shortly after, a familiar pattern of record-breaking. When is Amazon Prime Day 2020? Amazon Prime Day is scheduled for 12 a.m. PT on Tuesday, October 13 through Wednesday, October 14, 2020, as it was originally postponed due to COVID-19. Prime Day is an annual 48-hour sale where Amazon Prime members can get deals on products such as laptops, TVs, smartphones, wearables, and more. Shoppers, however, don't need to wait until then to take advantage of deals. Prime members can shop early deals and offers leading up to Prime Day. In addition to markdowns on Amazon devices, like select Fire TVs and the Fire TV Recast, Prime members can enjoy discounts on subscriptions to Audible, Amazon Music Unlimited or Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Fresh, plus several Amazon clothing brands, like GoodThreads and Daily Ritual. Prime members in the following countries can participate in the event: the US, UK, UAE, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and — for the first time this year — Turkey and Brazil. Was Amazon Prime Day postponed this year? Prime Day in past years has always taken place during the summer, specifically in July. Due to recent supply-chain delays and increased demand related to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Amazon has pushed Prime Day 2020 to October 13-14. Who can access Prime Day deals? Only Amazon Prime members can take advantage of this event. Signing up is easy though, and a membership comes with many more benefits than just Prime Day deals access and free two-day shipping. New members can sign up for a free 30-day trial with full benefits before committing. We're currently in the sweet spot wherein you can sign up for the month-long free trial, shop Prime Day, and avoid paying for the subscription cost. Of course, you can also just pay for a $13 month-long subscription to shop Prime Day, if you've already had a Prime subscription. Do other stores take part in Amazon Prime Day? Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will offer sales with competitive pricing during and around the event. However, the volume and quality of these competitor deals are up in the air, as the postponement of Prime Day 2020 has left us very close to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Walmart's "Big Save Event" leapfrogged Prime Day by starting on October 11, and it will last until Thursday, October 15 – a day longer than Prime Day itself. However, it still remains to be seen how Walmart+, the retail giant's Amazon Prime "competition," factors into the equation. It's likely that Walmart will have early offers and some exclusive discounts for subscribers. Fortunately, Walmart+ offers a 15-day free trial. Target's 'Deal Days' event matches Prime Day's dates and will offer shoppers "double the deals compared to last year." As with Amazon Prime Day, Target will offer "early-bird deals" ahead of 'Deal Days' plus exclusive discounts for Target Circle members. Best Buy has historically offered discounts during Prime Day and this year will be no different. During the sale, Best Buy will sell laptops starting as low as $120, JBL Free true wireless headphones for $70, and a Samsung 70-inch 4K smart TV for $530. Of course, Best Buy will reveal more as we get closer to the event. Shoppers, however, can expect to see discounts on Apple devices, laptops, big-screen TVs, and kitchen appliances during their competing Prime Day sale. Best Buy, like Target and Walmart, price matches many of Amazon's discounts, with or without a formal event announcement. We'll be covering the best deals from these retailers, plus other notable stores and companies, during Prime Day, just as we do during the rest of the year. How will this Prime Day be different from years past? With Prime Day happening so close to Black Friday this year, competing sales and the number of overall deals will most likely be fewer in number. Rival retailers may do as little as match Amazon's discounts on Amazon products, like Kindles and Echo speakers, and a few high-demand products, like Sony headphones or gaming consoles. The larger ripple we expect to see this Amazon Prime Day is less available stock and potentially delayed shipping. Shipping speeds often take a hit during these high-traffic events, and we expect it to be worse than in years past. With supply chains still not back up to snuff since prior to the pandemic, high-demand items like webcams, home office furniture, brand-name hand sanitizers, workout equipment, sewing machines, and the like will probably run out quickly, if they're in stock at all. How do I prepare for Amazon Prime Day? With Amazon Prime Day fast approaching, there are a few steps you can take to get the most out of the big shopping event. This prep can save you a ton of time and effort on the actual deal days and net you nearly $100 in account credit to use on October 13-14. Make sure you're an Amazon Prime member ahead of the sales event. Download the Amazon app. Shop Amazon's physical stores to collect bonus credit, refill your Amazon account balance, and apply for an Amazon.com Store card. Consider that just by shopping for groceries with Amazon, you can collect up to $50 in "free money" and adding an Amazon.com Store Card to your wallet will net you a $60 gift card. Create a shopping plan and narrow down what you want to buy. For more detailed information on how to get ready to shop Amazon Prime Day 2020, read this. You can also prepare by reading up on everything Prime Day-related to learn about what types of deals to expect and how to shop special promotions like Lightning Deals. We recommend holding off on buying Amazon devices and services until deals start to go live, if you can. While we also expect other smart home brands to drop in price considerably, brands like Kindle and Echo are our for-sure bet to drop in price. We also recommend waiting to sign up for any Amazon services or memberships, like Amazon Music Unlimited or Kindle Unlimited, as they often drop down to record-breaking lows during Prime Day. If one of the products on your wish list didn't receive a discount during Prime Day — don't immediately surrender to the retail price. In a little more than a month after Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday may offer the discount you were hoping for. Which is better for deals: Prime Day or Black Friday? 2020 has been an unprecedented year for deals events, so making solid predictions based on past years is somewhat difficult. However, we can expect Amazon-branded merchandise (e.g., Kindle, Echo, Ring, etc.) to be at all-time lows during Prime Day, the company's own event. We could speculate for days whether or not retailers will be able to offer equally jaw-dropping prices as past years, but with the delays in supply chains and shipping, and demand increases, prices this year between either Prime Day or Black Friday may not be as great as in past years (if there's even enough stock).SEE ALSO: All the useful Amazon Prime benefits to know that go beyond free 2-day shipping Join the conversation about this story »

Walmart has yet to announce how Walmart+ will play into the event or what benefits members can expect from the sale.
