You can use iPhone keyboard shortcuts to access alternate characters, insert web domains, switch to all-caps, and more. For instance, you can insert a single number without switching to the number keyboard by holding your finger on the "123" key and swiping. You can add any number of custom keyboard shortcuts, which will make your iPhone automatically insert phrases or symbols when you type a certain phrase. You probably use keyboard shortcuts all the time on your Mac or PC, but odds are good that you rarely think about using them on your iPhone. After all, your iPhone doesn't even have its own physical keyboard. But in reality, there are a few ways to save time while typing on your iPhone. Not only are there some handy shortcuts built into the iPhone's keyboard, but iOS makes it easy to add any number of your own custom shortcuts. Here's what you should know. Check out the products mentioned in this article: iPhone 11 (From $699.99 at Apple) iPhone keyboard shortcuts you should know The iPhone has a few built-in keyboard shortcuts which can save you a lot of time and random tapping. Alternate characters Tap and hold any key on the iPhone keyboard to see the alternate characters associated with that key — these include that character with accent marks and other changes. Not all keys have alternate characters, so it pays to explore the keyboard to see what options you have available. Web domains When you're typing in an email address field, such as the "To" line at the top of the Mail app, tap and hold the period (.) at the bottom right of the keyboard. You'll be able to choose a domain like .com or .edu with a single tap.
Quick-select an alternate key You probably know that you can switch to the numeric keys by tapping "123," or the symbols keyboard by tapping "#+=." That keyboard will normally remain on screen until you manually change back. But if you only need to enter a single number or symbol, tap and hold the keyboard change key, and swipe up to the key you need. Release, and you'll enter that key without actually changing to that keyboard. For example, suppose you're typing letters on the main keyboard and need to enter the number 4. Tap and hold "123," and swipe up to "4." Release, and you'll have inserted a 4 without switching keyboards, so you can keep typing letters. Switch to all-caps Put the keyboard in all-caps mode by double-tapping the Shift key. It'll be highlighted and all letters you type now will be capitalized. Turn it off by tapping Shift again or by tapping "123."
End a sentence with a period By default, double-tapping the Space bar will automatically insert a period followed by a space. How to create your own keyboard shortcuts on the iPhone The handful of built-in shortcuts are handy, but the real power in the iOS keyboard comes from creating your shortcuts. 1. Start the Settings app. 2. Tap "General" and then tap "Keyboard."
Tap "Text Replacement."
Tap "+" in the upper right corner.
Type the text phrase you want to create, and then enter the text shortcut that will trigger it when you're typing. For example, you could enter your email address in the Phrase field and make the shortcut your initials — that way, whenever you type your initials, it autocorrects to become your email address. Also, keep in mind that you can use any special or extended symbols (like the ones you get by tapping and holding a key) in the phrase as well.
Now whenever you enter the shortcut, it will autocorrect into the phrase you entered. How to edit your own keyboard shortcuts on the iPhone After you create a shortcut, you might need to change it. For example, you might want to tweak the phrase, or you made the shortcut text too common, so you trigger the shortcut frequently by accident. 1. Start the Settings app. 2. Tap "General" and then tap "Keyboard." 3. Tap "Text Replacement." 4. Tap the shortcut that you want to edit. 5. On the Text Replacement page, you can modify the phrase or shortcut and tap "Save" when you're done. How to delete keyboard shortcuts on the iPhone No longer need a shortcut? Here's how to delete it. 1. Start the Settings app. 2. Tap "General" and then tap "Keyboard." 3. Tap "Text Replacement." 4. Tap "Edit" at the bottom left of the screen. 5. Tap the red "-" next to any shortcut you want to remove, and then tap "Delete."

It's easy to make a Bitmoji; you start with a selfie, and then customize it as if you were making an avatar in a computer game. How to create Bitmoji on an iPhone 1. To get started making your own Bitmoji, install the Bitmoji app from the App Store. The app is free (though you might encounter in-app purchases for certain features). 2. After you create an account, you'll need to choose whether you're creating a male or female emoji – tap one of the images to continue. 3. You'll see a pop-up that suggests starting with a selfie. Tap "Continue." No one will ever see this photo – it's only used by the app to create your Bitmoji. 4. Frame yourself and take a selfie. 5. Now it's time to customize your image. Bitmoji creates a basic headshot of you, which you can customize by varying the skin tone, hair color, eyes, and more. Make a selection (you can scroll down for many more options) and then, when you're done, tap the right arrow at the top of the Options window. 6. Work your way through all the customization features. You can always use the left arrow to go back to a previous page and make additional changes. There are 19 pages in all, including wardrobe choices. 7. When you're done, tap "Save" at the top of the page. You can now insert your Bitmoji in text messages and emails. You might want to enable Bitmoji on your phone's keyboard so you can send Bitmojis without having to copy and paste them from the app. How to edit your Bitmoji on an iPhone After you create your Bitmoji, you can edit it at any time. Just start the Bitmoji app and tap "Avatar" at the bottom of the screen. You'll see the same screen that you used to create your Bitmoji. Make any changes you want to the avatar and your wardrobe. Note that after you dress your avatar in clothing, you can find past wardrobe choices in "My Closet," the last icon at the far right on the bottom of the screen. When you're done, tap "Save" to keep these changes. How to delete a Bitmoji and start over on an iPhone Sometimes it's easier to start over from scratch rather than continuing to edit an existing avatar. To do that: 1. Open the Bitmoji app and tap the Settings icon (shaped like a gear) at the top right corner of the screen. 2. Tap "My Data." 3. On the My Data page, tap "Reset Avatar" and then tap "OK" to confirm you want to do this. Afterwards, you'll start back at the beginning of the process, where you can choose a male or female avatar and take a new selfie. And frustratingly, it's often a lot easier to sign up than it is to cancel a streaming subscription. For iPhone users ready to break up with Hulu, canceling subscriptions through Apple can be particularly vexing for the uninitiated. Fortunately, we've navigated the process for you. Here are the seven steps to achieve a conscious uncoupling from your monthly payment or free trial with Hulu. How to cancel Hulu on an iPhone Though you can sign up for a subscription on Hulu's mobile app, you cannot cancel a subscription on the app. The Account page of the app's settings menu simply tells you to go to the website to manage your account. But, if you've subscribed to Hulu through the mobile app, you can cancel your subscription from your iPhone's Settings app. 1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. 2. Tap your name and Apple ID, at the very top. 3. Select "Subscriptions," located beneath "Payment & Shipping." Alternatively, you can get to the Subscriptions page by tapping "Media & Purchases," then tapping "Subscriptions" toward the bottom of the following page. 4. On the Subscriptions screen, under "Active," tap on your Hulu subscription. If your Hulu subscription isn't on this page, you're either signed into the wrong Apple ID account, or you didn't sign up for Hulu through the iPhone app. 5. You'll see under "Options" two types of memberships, with a check mark next to your current subscription package. Tap "Cancel Subscription" at the bottom of the page, or if you're currently in the free trial phase of your subscription, tap "Cancel Free Trial." After you've cancelled, you'll still be able to use Hulu until the end of the billing period or free trial you've signed up for.
