Recently, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said: "If you’re not trying to organize harm against someone, or attacking someone, then you can put up that content on your page, even if people might disagree with it or find it offensive." But we all know that was -- and remains -- untrue.
How many people and pages have been banned for their pro-gun rights speech? Too many.
This is not an algorithm-based issue. Facebook's complete and total takedown and block on CodeIsFreeSpeech.com is without question a human policy decision by Facebook executives to single us and our speech out for especially disfavorable treatment.
And Facebook did not just block CodeIsFreeSpeech.com prospectively. In an outrageous display of censorship and bias, Facebook forced a company-wide -- Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram -- takedown of content about and inclusive of CodeIsFreeSpeech.com.
What we are experiencing is a complete ban on CodeIsFreeSpeech.com -- not a "shadow ban", not a reduced newsfeed presence, but a complete and total ban. Welcome to Facebook North Korea...
Facebook also took down peer-to-peer fundraisers to Firearms Policy Foundation, a Facebook-approved 501(c)3 charity -- that were raising money for charitable programs (ironically, relating to free speech) using Facebook's own fundraising platform. No one knows if their fundraising efforts were successful, or if Facebook just seized the donations.
CodeIsFreeSpeech.com is not malicious, and no malicious files are hosted on it. (We have file checksums posted right on the site.) CodeIsFreeSpeech.com uses forced full-time HTTPS. And CodeIsFreeSpeech.com has been in many major mainstream news articles and televised stories over the past week. Our project's Web site is definitely not SPAM -- and it's a verifiably legitimate operation with known participants.
