Learning relevant business skills is convenient, cost-effective, and enjoyable with GoSkills. The up-and-coming e-learning site has especially robust offerings in Microsoft Excel and project management. You can become a more valuable employee, a more effective manager, or a standout job applicant with the help of the online lessons.
You don't have to have a business degree to excel in your career, but it certainly helps to be in-the-know about the common software, applications, and processes used in workplaces everywhere. If your goal is to learn new business skills, you have many available options. Online classes are among the most convenient and affordable ways to gain these new skills, and while I typically defer to a few favorites, I recently came across a useful site called GoSkills, an online-learning platform that focuses exclusively on important technical and soft business skills. Whereas other popular e-learning sites tend to offer classes across a broad range of subjects — useful in its own right if you have a variety of learning interests — GoSkills is geared toward anyone looking specifically to improve their effectiveness in the professional world. It currently offers more than 70 courses in web development, Microsoft Office, Adobe software, project management, and more. You can find skills that are increasingly valued in the workplace like Scrum and Advanced Microsoft Excel alongside skills that will never go out of fashion like Business Writing and Leadership Training. Whether you're looking to evolve in your current role, brush up on skills you learned a while ago, or transition to a new position, GoSkills gives you the educational support to do so. GoSkills uses a combination of video tutorials, exercises, and quizzes in its lessons, as e-learning sites typically do, but is unique in its personalized learning approach: Because no two students are the same, the course syllabi are personalized based on your prior skills and experience. After you take a placement test to identify your strengths and weaknesses, GoSkills shows you what areas to focus on so you can accelerate your learning. You're probably a busy person juggling other commitments, so the trick here is to study smarter, not harder. Pricing is straightforward. After a 7-day free trial, you can pay $39 a month for access to all courses on the site, or pay $299 at once for a year of access, saving you $169. You can also pay $29 for access to just one course, though learning more than one skill will never be detrimental to your professional development. Below, we've highlighted some of the best GoSkills courses worth taking. Browse all courses and sign up for your 7-day free trial here.Microsoft Excel - Basic & Advanced

As countries around the world enforce strict quarantine measures, business leaders have turned to online learning, with a 60% jump on Linkedin Learning. Perlego, the "Spotify of textbooks", says it has seen a 550% boost in the number of execs using its platform over the course of two months. Execs told Business Insider they had taken up a range of new hobbies, including everything from the piano through to Google Analytics and quantum computing. New data from business networking platform Linkedin has revealed a surge in the number of C-suite executives taking e-learning courses under lockdown. As the COVID-19 pandemic forces millions around the world to remain indoors, the amount of time C-suite execs in the UK spend on Linkedin learning courses has surged 60% in March and April, compared to the previous two months. The firm has made a number of its online courses free around the world, including classes on crisis communications, leadership, and influencing. According to Linkedin's survey of 1,000 registered C-suite executives, 20% were taking classes in order to become "better leaders", while the other 40% were learning to "succeed at their current job". Josh Graff, Linkedin's UK country manager, said: "Executives today are facing significant operational challenges, while also having to work out how to motivate and mobilise their people - almost all of whom are either adjusting to working from home or working with new social distancing measures." He added: "Our data shows that CEOs are taking that challenge very seriously and trying to equip themselves with the right skills to help their companies through these unchartered waters." Perlego – an online library startup dubbed the "Spotify of textbooks"– told Business Insider it had seen a 550% increase in usage among C-suite professionals between March and May this year. They said C-suite execs spend around six hours a month on their platform, and are typically reading four books at once. Michael Christian, CTO of Claromentis, which offers firms a "digital workplace" intranets, told Business Insider he had taken up a unique combination of online study subjects: the piano and quantum computing. "Lockdown triggered me to take two online courses, which I wouldn't have done in normal circumstances," he said. The piano lessons come courtesy of HDPiano.com, and the quantum computing via online learning marketplace Udemy. "I played piano and keyboard many years ago and I felt inspired to go back to it and learn a few new songs," said Christian. "I've wanted to understand the basic principles [of quantum computing], as they are fundamentally different from normal computing and it fascinates me. "I'm not sure I'll be able to apply what I've learnt yet; it is mostly for my own interest, research purposes, and to sate my curiosity, but it may well be knowledge I need in the future." Danny Hall, managing director of marketing agency FSE Digital, told Business Insider he had been taking courses with Google Skillshop to gain a better understanding of the search engine's power. "So far I've passed the Google Analytics Individual qualification and the Google Search Ads qualification, but really I plan to go through as many of them as possible," he said. "I've found I'm in a better position to encourage my team to take these courses by taking them myself."Join the conversation about this story » NOW WATCH: We tested a machine that brews beer at the push of a button

Read more: 100 online courses from Coursera are $0 now through May 31 More people are now under lockdown to protect against COVID-19 than were alive during World War II. There are many class offerings, but below are the 23 most popular Coursera courses around the world right now, according to the company. The list includes individual courses as well as Specializations and professional certificate programs, which represent a series of related courses bundled together to help students master a specific skill or interrelated concepts. If you're looking to take just one course included in a Specialization, you can usually do that too. And, if you expect to spend more than $399 on your months-long program, consider the Coursera Plus annual subscription — just make sure your courses are included in the 90% of classes it gives you access to.
