$1 billion for 20,000 Bay Area homes
Google is going to invest $1bn in building housing in the Bay Area. California has a housing crisis and the San Francisco Bay Area has a bad housing crisis (population growth, fragmented government, planning processes that make house-building very hard), to the degree it's arguably become a business issue - 'our engineers can't afford to live here'. This is also a political move, of course.
