I am in an introspective point in my career where I enjoy my work, but I wouldn’t say I am passionate about the work that I do or feel that it is particularly meaningful. I am curious how others have discovered projects, companies or communities that you are passionate about working with/for.
How did you find it? Was there any particular things you looked for in yourself or in the project? Did you know immediately or did it take some time? Did you immediately dive in or was it the culmination of years of work/selfstudy? Why did you want to do it? How would you advise someone else find something similar?
To be clear: I don’t think you must have a purpose or derive meaning from your work, there are tons of people that live happy and meaningful lives regardless of their work. I don’t want to discredit their experience. I am just interested in hearing the experience of people who have found something they are passionate about that they put time and energy towards. Maybe in the form of a day job, maybe not. I also want to acknowledge this post: https://lobste.rs/s/orbiuh/ask_is_your_work_meaningful There is a ton of wisdom in those comments about what can make your work and life meaningful.
